What material do you need for pumpfoiling?
For pumpfoiling, you also need the appropriate equipment, namely the pumpfoil set. Below, we provide you an overview of the individual components of a pumpfoil set. The most important components of the pumpfoil set are:
Frontwing
The frontwing generates lift. Especially for beginners, it is important that the wing has enough lift. This helps to generate the necessary lift even at lower speeds and makes learning dock starts easier. It is important – as with the entire pumpfoil equipment – that the material fits for the pumpfoiler.
Backwing / Stabilizer
The back wing – also known as the stabilizer – stabilizes the entire system. It is located at the end of the fuselage and stabilizes the system in the roll axis. Simply put, the larger the back wing, the more stable the foil setup is in the roll axis.
Fuselage
The fuselage is the structure that connects the front and rear wings and also establishes the connection from the foil to the mast. Fuselages come in various designs. The main feature is the length. Generally, the longer the fuselage, the greater the distance between the front and back wings, which makes the setup more stable in the roll axis.

Mast
The mast connects the board to the foil. There are different mast lengths available. Depending on the application, it may be beneficial to use a longer or shorter mast. You can find the advantages and disadvantages of shorter and longer masts in this video or in this article.

Board
The board is essentially the „platform“ on which the foiler stands. Boards come in a wide variety of sizes and designs. In addition to size and shape, buoyancy is also relevant depending on the application. This is especially important if the board is to be used also for wave foiling in addition to dock starting.

Training Material
For course participants who do not own their own pumpfoil, we provide a pumpfoil set. In the training sessions, we primarily use pumpfoil sets from Indiana. Depending on the participant, we can use different foils and boards, as it is important to use a beginner-friendly pumpfoil set, especially at the beginning.
If a participant decides to purchase a pumpfoil, we are of course happy to assist in selecting a suitable foil. Please also reach out to us for discounts.
Protective Equipment
Despite some risks, pumpfoiling can be relatively safe if certain safety aspects are considered. Wearing appropriate protective gear is important.
A helmet and an impact vest are the most important. A wetsuit can also be helpful, both as protection against the cold in colder waters and as an additional protective layer. It can cushion impacts on the board and help prevent cuts and abrasions from the foil.
In our training sessions, wearing a helmet and impact vest is mandatory for beginners. We provide these in various sizes for the courses.
